Investigation and Remediation of Newcastle Post Office

Under the direction of APP as project managers, Izzat Consulting Engineers carried out a structural condition audit of The Newcastle Post Office for NSW State Government, to report the condition and works required to make safe for future users.

Following the initial investigation, it was realised that there was significant damage to some parts of the building, that required a more detailed investigation and advice to manage ongoing deterioration.

Izzat had the responsibility to determine if the building was safe for others to enter, and to confirm areas unsafe for general access. The whole building was known to have asbestos contamination, and was infested by birds.

Due to Izzat’s prior knowledge, we were later engaged by the University of Newcastle as part of a Due Diligence exercise to assist the University in assessing the suitability of the site for use by the University.

Izzat was later engaged by Crown Lands to look at the deterioration over a period of 3 years since the initial inspection to assess any further structural deterioration.
